2 months old

Caden turned 2 months old on Sunday, the 21st of July!  Time sure flies when you're having fun and boy are we having fun!  Mitch started back to work full time this week so that has been an adjustment for all of us.  We are very grateful for the flexibility of his work so that we were able to spend so much time together the last couple of months. Here are some 2 month stats...

These are unofficial measurements done by us at home :)

• weight-10 1/2 lbs (remember he started at just over 5 lbs!)
• height- just over 22 inches long
• diapers-moved to size 1 on the 1st of July
• clothes-mostly newborn and a few 0-3 mos.
• new skills-"talking", laughing and lots more smiling
• hobbies-staring at the ceiling fan, reading books, snuggling with mommy & daddy
• feeding-he started going 4 hours between feedings at night, but the last couple nights he has been eating more often.  During the day he'll go 3 hours most of the time, however he likes to change it up some days to keep me on my toes.  Pretty sure he's in a constant state of "growth spurt."  He takes 1 bottle a day of higher calorie, fortified formula since he was a preemie and then breastfeeds all the other times.  He'll take between 3-4oz. per feeding.

 Caden and Owen got some matching outfits from GiGi and Aunt Shannon.  Those boys are gonna have so much fun together and get into so much trouble together :)

 We missed celebrating half of the family's birthdays while we were in the hospital.  So, we got together for one big celebration for Eddie, Mary Lu, Mitch, Owen, Dad and Megan.  I made personal pudding parfaits for everyone and mom sang happy birthday, multiple times so that no one felt cheated out of their own special moment :)

The Nursery

I finally took pictures of the nursery.  Caden's room is the 3rd bedroom in our house and up until March of last year was used as a room for storage.  I had always hoped that room would be the nursery.  It was the only room in the house we hadn't repainted.  We were kinda waiting for the day we could paint it for our child.  After years of infertility, we decided to go ahead and just clean the room out and paint it.  Mitch picked this blue color and I cried while I painted.  I felt like I was giving up on a dream.  Mitch said he was hoping that, like in the movie, Field of Dreams, that if we "built it, he would come."  And sure enough, he came :) What a perfect color for our sweet baby boy's room.

Caden's Room

 Cute decorations from several people and the diaper bags.  One from the hospital and one from my friends in Sunday School.  It's a Thirty-One bag that I picked out and had personalized.

 This is the dresser that my Grandpa Whitney made for Mitch when he was a kid.  We thought it would be neat for Caden to have some furniture in his room that his great grandpa made. 

 My aunt Nancy bought us his crib bedding and had my mom give it to me on Mother's Day.  She lives in Utah and thought that Caden's crib needed to be dressed.  Thankfully she had the idea to give it to me early because I was able to get it all put together in the few days I was home in between hospital stays.  It made me feel better to have his crib ready even though I knew he wouldn't sleep in it for a while.

 This was the glider I got for my highschool graduation.  "Grandma" Ruby recovered it for me so it would match Caden's bedding.  On the back of the glider is the blanket I started making on bedrest and another blanket that Sheralyn made us.  The bear is from our friend and neighbor, Amanda.

 These are the shelves and baskets my mom and sisters got for his room.  While I was in the NICU with Caden, they were busy putting his room together for me.  It was such a blessing to come home from the hospital and have it all set up so nice!  The books are from my church friends.  We had a storybook shower and the guests wrote notes on books in the place of a shower card.  Such a fun idea!  We've been loving to read them to him.

 I couldn't post a blog update without a few pictures of my cutie!

Due Date

Happy 4th of July!  Today was supposed to be our due date! So hard to believe we wouldn't have even met him yet!  I can't imagine life without him :)

6 weeks old

Caden is 6 weeks old today.  We went to the doctor yesterday for his 6 week appointment.  He weighs 8lbs and 8oz!  That's a big change from his birth weight of 5lbs and 3oz!  I told you he liked to eat!  He is 20 and 3/4 inches long and his head circumference is 14 and 1/2 inches.  He is in the 90-97 percentile on the preemie chart and is actually on the full term chart now, too.  We both got good reports and are so thankful that he is healthy and growing. He is staying awake more now and is so much fun.  We've been reading books and listening to music.  Mitch is reading him a Proverb a day this month and I like to sing to him.  He stopped wearing preemie clothes and diapers at 4 weeks.

One of our favorite things to do is take a nap on the couch.  Caden will wiggle himself over toward you until his face is touching yours.  He loves to snuggle!
